SEMINARS

NZLS National Seminar - Judicial Settlement Conferences - a 306 degree perspective

by Helen Rice, Associate Judge Faire and Judge Tom Ingram QC. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1 2008

Helen Rice joined Associate Judge Faire and Judge Tom Ingram on a tour of New Zealand to speak to lawyers about judicial settlement conferences – a 360° perspective.

The New Zealand seminar was well received.  The booklet is available from NZLS. This is what some of the participants said:

·         “This was one of the best overall NZLS seminars I have ever attended.  All three presenters were excellent.  As for Helen, wow! What a dynamo.  If I ever encounter her as counsel on the other side I will surrender.  Helen was fantastic.  Totally informative, inspiring and entertaining.  If Helen ever tires of being a top class lawyer she can become a presenter/lecturer/talk show host.”

·         “This was the most worthwhile NZLS seminar that I have ever attended in my nine years working as a local government lawyer.

·         “Helen, for her part left me in no doubt to which Auckland firm should be instructed to act should litigation ensue.

·         “Previously I had viewed JSC’s as just another step in the process that was compulsory (and often pointless) to take and did not really see the value of them.  I now see how powerful this particular tool is and that counsel have far more control over the process than I previously thought.  Helen’s tips regarding preparation were extremely useful.
